About
Art has always been a release for all of my quirks as well as a way to calm my ever-wandering thoughts. As someone with endless doubts and fears I do my best work when there is a lack of intent. Making artwork that has a deeper meaning to me or is intended to address social issues has always ended in dissatisfaction. I have resolved this by creating in a more automatic function. As a child my art teacher saw that I was struggling with subject matter and gave me a book of cats and asked that I choose one portrait to recreate. Instead I spent the next year copying all 280 pictures. These cat paintings meant nothing to me but after mastering them I gained a confidence to explore new subject matter. Figures have been that release for me for the past 5 years. I originally enjoyed the idea that I did not have to worry about content when I could simply copy the form of the nude model in front of me. Unlike the cat paintings I began to find a deep love for the human form and saw the endless possibilities in which to present it. The work on my website is a journey from automatic release to finding deeper meaning completely coincidently. I work in various mediums and recently have used mylar and tracing paper to turn the figure in to a more decorative piece.
